Financial Academy Insurance Foundation Certificate Examination
The following examples illustrate different routes to CII qualifications and professional designations for holders of the Financial Academy Insurance Foundation Certificate Examination (IFCE).
Fatema, Samir and Muhammad have recently passed the Financial Academy Insurance Foundation Certificate Examination (IFCE) and want to build this into CII's internationally-recognised Level 3 Certificate in Insurance.
They join the CII and renew their membership annually to maintain their professional designations.
Exemptions Search
By using the RPL eligibility checker they discover that they could receive an exemption from the core (W01) Award in General insurance unit.
IFCE documentation within application
To ensure their applications are successful, they prepare their digitally-certified IFCE certificates.
Before they upload them within the CII online application form, they ensure the document file name is in the English alphabet and contains no consecutive spaces, wildcards (eg * ? #) or special characters.
Applications and payment
They all make their online applications, receive their outcomes and purchase their offers within 30 days. They decide to become CII members at the same time as they purchase their exemption.
- Fatema telephones to pay by card.
- Samir forwards his offer to his colleague in Learning and Development so his employer can pay on its corporate account.
- Muhammad prefers to purchase by bank transfer, so he emails CII Customer Service to request CII's bank details and a pro-forma invoice. He adds the cost of his bank's charges to his payment to ensure there are no delays in receiving his exemption.
Level 3 Certificate in Insurance
To complete this CII qualification, they all purchase their next units from the CII website: www.cii.co.uk/cert-insurance:
- Insurance underwriting (non-UK)
- Insurance claims handling (non-UK).
Fatema and Samir purchase the English-language version (WUE and WCE), and Muhammad purchases the Arabic version (WUA and WCA).
When they pass both these units, they complete the CII Level 3 Certificate in Insurance. They view their passes on their CII learning statements and access their qualification certificates within their CII dashboards.

As they are CII members, they are eligible to use the Cert CII professional designation within their emails signatures.
Level 4 Diploma in Insurance and Level 6 Advanced Diploma in Insurance
Samir decides to progress to the CII Level 4 Diploma in Insurance and Level 6 Advanced Diploma in Insurance, upgrading his Cert CII designation to Dip CII, then ACII and applying for the CII Chartered Insurer title.
