Achieving CII qualifications through a blended pathway

Affiliated Institutes' qualifications

The blended route to CII qualifications using prior learning is similar for the majority of CII Affiliated Institutes' qualifications.

This illustration shows a typical route to achieving CII qualifications and professional designations for CII members.

Other routes are available and the examples don't guarantee that all applications will receive the same prior learning award.

Prior learning awards for Affiliated Institutes' qualifications cost 20% of the price of CII qualification units.

Diploma in Insurance awarded by affiliated institute

Eugene has successfully completed his Diploma in Insurance, awarded by his CII affiliated insurance institute. He wishes to build on this qualification, which is recognised within his country, to achieve the internationally-recognised CII Level 6 Advanced Diploma in Insurance.

He joins the CII and renews his membership annually to maintain his professional designations.

Because he has already completed a Diploma qualification, he wishes to bypass the CII Level 3 Certificate in Insurance. Instead, he will complete the CII Level 4 Diploma in Insurance through a combination of prior learning and passing a minimum one qualification unit through direct CII assessment. This may be a Diploma-level unit or an Advanced Diploma-level unit.

Eugene claims his prior learning award of 75 Diploma-level CII credits, equivalent to three Diploma-level exemptions (all electives). He needs to pass two CII units through direct CII assessment: He chooses:

These 50 Diploma-level credits bring his CII credits to 125.

As a CII member, he is eligible to use the Dip CII professional designation.

Achieving the Level 6 Advanced Diploma in Insurance

He now needs a total of 290 CII credits, of which a minimum 150 must be at Advanced Diploma-level.

As a claims handler, he passes the Diploma-level (M85) Claims practice unit, which is ideal preparation for his choice of core unit at Advanced Diploma-level: (820) Advanced claims.

He now requires a further four Advanced Diploma-level units to bring his CII credits to 295 and complete the CII Level 6 Advanced Diploma in Insurance.

He upgrades his professional designation to ACII.

After completing five years of sector experience, Eugene is eligible to apply for the Chartered Insurer title.
