Ghost broking – criminals pretending to be insurance brokers and selling fake cover, usually through social media – is growing and industrialising.
Victims believe they are insured only to risk facing financial loss, uninsured driving penalties, personal liability for accidents and difficulty obtaining cover later.
To support the sector’s response, the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) commissioned Ipsos to survey 2,194 UK adults aged 18-7 5 in June 20261, to find out what the public knows about ghost broking, how people buy and check motor insurance, and what they think the sector should do to tackle the problem.
The findings are sobering. Read the full Ghost broking: the fake insurance with real costs report.
