The Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) has appointed Aon UK chief executive Julie Page as president.

Julie Page has worked within the insurance profession for more than 30 years with clients across all segments, including Consumer, Small and medium-sized enterprises, UK and Global Corporate.

She was appointed CEO of Aon UK Ltd in 2018 and directly leads Aon’s Commercial Risk, Health and Affinity businesses.

Ms Page is a member of the Confederation of British Industry’s Presidents Committee, a member of the Financial Conduct Authority Practitioner Panel and a champion for diversity and inclusion, previously holding roles as a committee member of Inclusion@Lloyds and the Dive-In Festival.

Additionally, she was a non-executive board director of the British Insurance Brokers' Association, as the Chair of one of its Advisory Boards, and latterly Deputy Chair before she stood down in July 2019.

In 2017 Julie was a recipient of a Business Insurance ‘EMEA Women to Watch’ award.

Ms Page said “At any time, it would be a privilege to be appointed as president of the CII; but now, with the unprecedented health crisis and economic interruption caused by Covid-19, the need for us to continue to focus on trust in our products and services increases both the privilege and responsibility I feel in accepting this honour.

“The opportunity to work with the best minds from all sides of our profession, to gain recognition of the valuable work that we already do, and to find ways to accelerate our efforts to respond to customer needs is something I am extremely excited about.”

Also at the CII’s AGM, which took place today (8 October), Peter Blanc was appointed to the role of deputy president.

Mr Blanc is Group CEO of insurance brokers Aston Lark, and non-executive chairman of Hastings Insurance Services Ltd.

Ms Page and Mr Blanc took up their roles after the CII extended the term of former President Nick Turner, Sales and Agency Director of NFU Mutual, after it was forced to delay its annual AGM due to the global coronavirus pandemic.

The CII appoints a new President annually at the AGM, which usually takes place in the Summer but due to the conditions caused by Covid-19 the 2020 AGM was postponed until today (8 October).

Sian Fisher, CEO of the Chartered Insurance Institute, noted: “I would like to thank Nick for extending his tenure as President during these challenging times and for his focus on building a greater level of consumer trust in our profession. I would also like to offer him the CII’s congratulations on his recent appointment as the next Group CEO of NFU Mutual to succeed after the retirement of the current CEO next April.

“I am delighted to have Julie as our new president and look forward to working with her on how our profession can unite to best serve society, both now and during less stressful times.”
