Fellowship Programme Requirements

During your progression to Fellowship you may need help or advice. You may be fortunate in having the services of a mentor from your employer to call on, or your local institute may offer help. Use these as your first port of call.

The Fellowship Advisory Service (FAS) societies.fas@cii.co.uk can provide help and advice about the Fellowship Programme.

Step 1 – Enrolment and Fellowship Plan

  • Complete the Enrolment application form, outline your proposed plan and timeframes, indicate your choice of major achievement (enrolment fee is payable).
  • CII will respond to confirm next steps within 14 working days.

Step 2 – Business Ethics Programme (BEP)

  • Complete the online study and assessments.
  • CII will respond to confirm your assessment results within 40 working days.

Step 3 – Major Achievement

  • Must be completed after achieving the CII Associateship.
  • Choose one from the four options:
    1. additional qualification - must be UK degree-level (6) or above
    2. research-based discussion paper (4,000 - 5,000 words on an insurance-related subject)
    3. report on a project (4,000 - 5,000 words) that brings about change in a commercial capacity
    4. portfolio of published works.
  • Refer to the Regulations and Guidelines for key requirements and examples of eligible qualifications (option 1) and discussion papers and projects (options 2 and 3).
  • For option 1, complete and submit the Major Achievement application form (can be submitted with enrolment form).
  • CII will respond to confirm next steps within 21 working days.

Step 4 – Continuing Professional Development (CPD)

  • Supply records of your last three years of Continuing Professional Development.
  • If you submit using the CII CPD tool and you have recorded your CPD elsewhere, you may populate the CII tool to include previous years.
  • CII will provide feedback on your CPD submission within 10 working days.

Step 5 – Write a Statement of Personal Development (SPD)

  • This statement reflects on what you have learnt through the Fellowship Programme and outlines your justification to be awarded Fellowship of the CII.
  • A 1,000 - 1,100 word executive summary of your achievements.

Step 6 – Election application to Fellowship Assessment Board

  • Once you have completed each of the previous steps, you are ready to make your formal submission to the quarterly Fellowship Assessment Board (application fee is payable).
  • Submit your Election application form, Major Achievement and Statement of Professional Development to the CII for a decision by the Fellowship Assessment Board.
  • CII will confirm the outcome within 10 weeks of the Fellowship Assessment Board closing date.

Fees payable

Enrolment (including BEP): £335.00
Re-enrolment (excludes BEP): £232.00
Election to Fellowship: £232.00

Fees exclude VAT/Sales tax where applicable.
