Workshop Overview

Workshop Overview

This workshop provides participants with a comprehensive understanding of marine war risks insurance and the evolving geopolitical threats affecting global shipping. It explores the legal and regulatory framework governing war-related marine exposures, including international law, sanctions, and trade restrictions, before examining the treatment of war, terrorism, piracy, political violence, and related perils within marine insurance policies.

Participants will gain an understanding of specialist marine war risks policy structures, market clauses, underwriting considerations, and the factors influencing risk assessment, including vessel characteristics, trading areas, and geopolitical developments.

The workshop also provides practical insight into piracy and maritime terrorism, the interaction between war risks, hull, cargo, kidnap and ransom, and Protection and Indemnity (P&I) insurance, together with claims handling considerations involving ransom, detention, and sanctions.

Finally, participants will examine emerging risks, including cyber threats, and consider how insurers and shipping companies are adapting underwriting and claims strategies to an increasingly complex global security environment.
