Later Life Lending & Advice Opportunities
8 & 9 December 2026, 09:30-12:30 (UK time)
Online Training Workshop
Two half-days
8 & 9 December 2026, 09:30-12:30 (UK time)
If you work with clients for long enough, you eventually start working with their parents. Or you find yourself having a very different kind of conversation. Slower, more emotional, and often involving other people in the room. Later‑life lending isn't just another product set. It's a different context, with different pressures, expectations, and risks.
This two half‑day workshop is about helping advisers feel confident, competent, and appropriate in later‑life conversations. We explore how older clients actually experience borrowing decisions, how equity release and retirement lending fit into wider financial planning, and where advisers need to slow down, involve others, or step back entirely.

Workshop Overview
We also look at how to work effectively alongside financial advisers, not in competition with them, so clients get joined‑up support rather than fragmented advice. The focus throughout is on real client scenarios, practical judgement, and doing the right thing — not just knowing the rules.
By the end of the workshop, advisers will be able to:
- Understand the changing needs of older clients, including how health, confidence, family dynamics and life stage affect borrowing decisions.
- Explain later‑life lending and equity release options clearly and calmly, without jargon or pressure, and in a way clients and families can genuinely understand.
- Recognise when later‑life lending is appropriate — and when it isn’t, and feel confident pausing or redirecting conversations where necessary.
- Identify natural cross‑referral points with financial advisers, understanding where mortgage advice ends and broader financial planning should begin.
- Work more effectively with financial planners, supporting collaborative conversations that lead to better outcomes for clients rather than duplication or confusion.
- Navigate compliance and suitability requirements with confidence, particularly around vulnerability, capacity, documentation, and Consumer Duty.
