Testing Position
Tax year
The tax year 2019/2020 will be examined from 1 September 2019 until 31 August 2020.
Intestacy
The statutory legacy under the rules of intestacy has increased in respect of deaths from 6 February 2020 onwards. Examinations will be reflective of this change from 6 May 2020.
Brexit
On the 31st January 2020, the UK left the European Union and has now entered into a transition period which ends on the 21st December 2020.
Please note: The UK decision to leave the European Union will have no immediate impact on the 2020- 2021 CII syllabuses or exams. Changes that may affect future exam syllabuses will be announced as they arise.
General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)
The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) comes into effect on 25 May 2018. Examinations will be reflective of GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018 from 25 May 2018.
The ER1 Examination Guide for exams from 1 September 2018 until 31 August 2019 was first published in June 2018. Any questions which have been amended since the examination guide was first published will appear below.
