Planning and recording
Planning CPD
CPD that members complete should be relevant to their career. For support with planning CPD, members may wish to consult the Professional Map.
CII’s CPD resources can be accessed on our Learning Hub, CPD Database and CII Journal.
Recording CPD
Members should record the CPD activities they complete. A CPD record should provide the following information for each CPD activity completed:
- Date, Name and Description of the activity
- Whether it is structured or unstructured CPD (find out more information).
- The development need the CPD activity is aiming to address.
- The learning outcome(s) of the CPD activity.
- Reflective statement: what you learnt from the activity, any planned follow-up activities and how you have applied it to your practice to create impact.
We have a CPD tool to help plan and record CPD activity. It is not compulsory to use it, but members may find it helpful for recording and planning CPD. For more information, read Submitting your CPD record (PDF).
Using AI
The CII recognises and supports AI as a useful tool for members when planning and recording their CPD. While AI may be used to aid the planning and recording of CPD, it should not be used to generate reflective statements. Personalised reflection provides evidence that members have actively engaged with their learning and applied it to create positive impact. Members should ensure that reflective statements are written in their own words and explain how the learning has been relevant to their personal development and professional practice.
If a member is selected for CPD audit and it is suspected that reflective statements have been generated by AI, the CII will engage directly with the member and may request that reflective statements are rewritten or revised.
