RPL letter to awarding organisation
The letter located to the right of this page has been designed to support recognition of prior learning applicants who are unable to obtain the qualification information that we require to determine their eligibility to recognition of prior learning awards. It is only intended for applicants who we have asked to provide detailed syllabus and assessment material. Please do not provide this detailed information unless we have written to you with a specifc request to provide it.
CII recognition of prior learning awards are based on the match to other qualifications' learning outcomes and assessment. In order to determine whether an applicant is eligible for a prior learning award we carry out a detailed mapping exercise to determine how closely qualifications match. The material that we require is outlined in our letter to the applicant. Applicants sometimes need the assistance of their awarding organisation to provide this information as awarding organisations are usually the source of the qualification material.
This information is for CII students who:
- have applied for recognition of prior learning and
- have received a written request from us to provide syllabus and/or assessment information
This material will enable us to determine whether we can make a prior learning award. To be eligible, your submission would need to evidence a full match between your non-CII qualification and the current CII learning outcomes and assessment standard.
This page provides guidance to help you to:
- identify the qualification documents that we have asked you to provide
- understand the value of providing these documents
- obtain material from your awarding organisation if you don't already have this
The documentation may be accessible from your awarding body's website.

If you don't possess this information please send this letter to your awarding organisation, enclosing a copy of our email to you that specifies the material we require. Please send us all the material we have requested within a single submission. If however your awarding organisation prefers to send some documentation (eg exam material) directly to CII (we will treat this in complete confidence) please ask them to clearly state that the information relates to your recognition of prior learning application and keep you updated.
If we have not specifically asked you to provide the documentation outlined on this page please do not send it to us. We only require this information where we haven't recently reviewed your qualification's match to current CII qualifications.
