Callum Beaton, FCII

Deputy President (January - December 2025)

Callum Beaton’s insurance career commenced in 1977 in London and he became a member of the CII on his first day at work. The early years of his career were spent broking, followed by underwriting at Lloyd’s. At the beginning of 1986 he moved back to Guernsey, where he grew up, to enter the captive insurance management sector. He spent almost twenty years in the sector, rising to become Chief Executive of a captive management company and Deputy Chief Executive of its parent group.  During that time he travelled extensively gaining experience in South Africa, Central and North America, Asia and Australia in addition to the UK and Europe. In 2004 Callum stepped aside from corporate activity and has since practised as an insurance consultant with a critical focus on captive and cell captive techniques.

He has been retained as an expert witness in a number of cases and regularly undertakes peer reviews of insurance and captive insurance programmes. He has written and lectured extensively and presently holds a number of directorships of captive insurance companies.

Callum achieved his ACII in 1982 and his FCII, for which he was awarded the Rutter Medal, in 2007. In 2011 he was awarded the Morgan Owen Medal. In recent years he has served as President of the Insurance Institute of Guernsey, a member of the (CII’s) Representative Council, joint chair of the Fellowship Assessment Board, a member of its Education and Learning Committee, and member of its Main Board.  He received the President’s Award in 2020 and, since 2022, has served as chair of the Local Institute Volunteer Awards Panel.

Callum is married to Sandra and they have two adult sons, one of whom is an ACII qualified underwriter in the City. In his spare time Callum enjoys gardening, boating, DIY and golf.
