CII’s Chair becomes Liverywoman of The Worshipful Company of Insurers

Dr Helen Phillips, Independent Chair of the Chartered Insurance Institute (‘CII’) Group Board has been appointed a Liverywoman of The Worshipful Company of Insurers and Freewoman of the City of London.
Dr Phillips joined the CII as its first independent Group Board Chair in July 2020. During her tenure with the CII she has also served as independent Chair of the Legal Services Board, the oversight regulator for the legal services sector, and Chair of Chesterfield Royal Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.
Dr Phillips became a Liverywoman of the Worshipful Company of Insurers on 14 March 2023 in recognition for her ongoing support to the Company, which aims to promote excellence within the insurance profession. During the ceremony in the Chamberlain’s Court at Guildhall, Dr Phillips was ‘clothed’ in the Company gown and also bestowed the title of Freewoman of the City of London.
Dr Phillips said, “I am honoured to be made a Liverywoman of The Worshipful Company of Insurers and Freewoman of the City of London. I made my public Declaration with great sincerity, and I will do all that I can to support the Company’s vision and dedicated work. It is a pleasure to be immersed in the city’s history of livery”.
The Worshipful Company of Insurance was granted Livery status in October 1979 and now has over 520 members, of which Dr Phillips is now one 146 Freeman/woman and 355 Liverymen/women.
Past President of the Chartered Insurance Institute, Peter Blanc, was also appointed a Freeman of the City and Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Insurers on the same day.
