Chartered Insurance Institute CEO Sian Fisher will examine how the insurance and personal finance profession can improve the health and wellbeing of the Commonwealth population at a webinar taking place today (23 June).

Ms Fisher will chair the Commonwealth Enterprise and Investment Council meeting, which is due to be attended by leading lights from the insurance profession and policymakers from across the Commonwealth’s 54-member countries.

The webinar will explore the Commonwealth’s objectives and explains how the insurance profession is working towards achieving these goals, as outlined in a 108-page CII report, titled A Commonwealth Insured.

Speakers on the webinar’s panel include John Neal, CEO of Lloyd’s, Ekhosuehi Ijahen, Secretary General of the Insurance Development Forum, Gerald Lim, President of the Singapore Insurance Brokers Association, Professor Abhijit Chattoraj, Chair of the Insurance Business Management Programme at University of Bimtech India, and Richard Leftley, CEO of Pan-African insurer MicroEnsure.

Sian Fisher, CEO of the CII, said: “When the Chartered Insurance Institute became a Commonwealth-accredited organisation, I was conscious that this status carries responsibilities and is only awarded to organisations committed to exemplifying and promoting the values and principles of the Commonwealth Charter.

“In many Commonwealth countries, the CII has traditionally been associated with the major categories of short-term insurance such as motor and household. These are critically important fields – especially in societies where the incidence of car and home ownership is increasing.

“Looking ahead, we see that professionalism in many other aspects of personal finance will also be vital to social and economic development – for example, in such categories as life insurance, pensions, mortgages and holistic financial planning.”
