Mandy Hunt, Chief Underwriting Officer for Commercial Lines at RSA, will be the new Chair of the CII’s Society of Underwriting Professionals. Having joined the Advisory Board of the Society in 2019, Mandy brings a wealth of underwriting experience and knowledge into the leadership position and is a long-time advocate of the CII and the importance of professional development and qualifications. Alongside SOUP Non-Executive Director, Phil Williams of Simply Business, she will lead the Advisory Board as it provides strategic guidance, content, learning and insight to the Society’s 11,000 members.

Mandy began her insurance career at Willis as an account handler in 1990, before moving to Lambert Fenchurch to become a claims manager. She joined RSA in 1998 as senior development underwriter, progressing through liability and property roles before becoming regional manager. She then took up the role of Managing Director of the Insurance Corporation of the Channel Islands (part of RSA Group), prior  to taking  her current role in 2018.

Mandy replaces David Williams (Managing Director, Underwriting & Technical Services at AXA) in the Chair role.

Mandy said: “I’m delighted to take up this opportunity and grateful for the support of my Advisory Board colleagues. Since joining the Board in 2019, I’ve seen SOUP put down some excellent foundations by producing regular guidance and insight for our members throughout the coronavirus pandemic. I’ll now be focused upon building on that success by developing strategic approaches to some of the biggest issues that we face in our sector such as skills, technology and trust.

“For someone entering the profession now, data analytical skills and understanding new technology are crucial to success. We also need to help customers understand the value of what we are offering and give them the confidence and trust that the insurance industry will support them when the time comes.

“The CII’s purpose is to build public trust, something we must have at the heart of what we do, and I want to ensure our customers are well served in this. Underwriting is a challenging and rewarding career, and it’s essential we provide our members with all the tools they need to navigate the business environment and realise the opportunities.”

Sian Fisher, Chief Executive of the CII said: “Our Insurance Societies are sector-specific professional communities that provide our members with relevant and insightful learning. I have no doubt Mandy’s experience and leadership will continue to drive forward SOUP’s growing engagement with the underwriting sector. My thanks to David, who has been an excellent Chair to the Advisory Board. I look forward to working with Mandy and the other Board members in the years ahead.”
