Membership Obligations and Application Information

Understand your obligations as a member, as well as what is expected of you during the application process.

Did you know?

When applying for membership of the CII/PFS, you will be asked about past bankruptcies, Individual Voluntary Arrangements (IVAs) or similar procedures and any judgement debts, convictions and past disciplinary history.

Why?

The CII asks these questions as part of a screening process, involving the CII’s Membership Application Sub Committee (MASC), which considers the suitability of applicants for membership of a professional body.

Who are MASC?

MASC is a sub-committee of the CII Professional Standards Committee. MASC has authority to approve membership, reject membership, impose conditions on membership or defer membership applications.

When applying to join the CII, you must answer all the questions truthfully, including the declarations you make. Any information you provide which is misleading or untrue may result in your membership being cancelled. It may also lead to disciplinary or criminal proceedings.

Instances where applications will normally be transferred to MASC include the circumstances set out above however, this is not an exhaustive list. Importantly, any past failure to comply with the CII's CPD requirements, applicable to qualified members, will be deemed an appropriate trigger for referral.

The process is further set out in the Membership Application Sub-Committee Guidelines and Terms of Reference.

With certain declarations, there are criteria that need to be met before we can pass your application to MASC for consideration, these are set out below:
