Information for Jelf employees
In early February 2019 Jelf announced changes to the way they pay professional membership fees. With effect from 1 April 2019 employees will be responsible for paying for their own CII membership (with those actively studying or already qualified able to reclaim fees via the Jelf expenses system).
This page aims to help members by providing information and answering frequently asked questions about maintaining membership.
How do I renew my CII membership?
The easiest way to renew is online; simply use your PIN and password to login. Within your personal profile section, you will be able to renew your membership.
If you do not know your PIN or password, you can call CII Customer Service on 020 8989 8464 and a member of the team will be happy to talk you through the renewal process.
How much will it cost me to renew my CII membership?
Fees vary according to your level of membership – the 2019 fees are shown below. Many members find that paying by Direct Debit is the easiest option and spreads the cost:
Membership level |
Monthly fee |
Annual fee |
Ordinary (student) |
£6.58 |
£79 |
Certificate |
£10.58 |
£127 |
Diploma |
£14.16 |
£170 |
Advanced Diploma |
£15 |
£180 |
Fellow |
£16.91 |
£203 |
Chartered |
£18.91 |
£227 |
What happens if my membership lapses?
Unless you renew your membership before 31 March 2019 your membership will expire.
Because non-members are not bound by a professional code of ethics, nor committed to continuing professional development, you will no longer be able to use your professional membership designations (i.e. Cert CII / Dip CII / ACII / FCII / Chartered Insurance Broker etc).
As a non-member you will no longer have access to resources available for members to support their ongoing professional development.
If your membership lapses and you later decide to re-join there will be a re-admission fee of £37 payable.

What is the Society of Insurance Broking?
In 2018 we also launched our Society of Insurance Broking dedicated to those working in the Insurance Broking Sector. By launching the Society, we are providing a range of tailored resources for brokers, which include:
- CPD videos (such as the future of commercial insurance broking)
- Topical news, blogs and insight (such as insuring for Brexit and stockpiled goods)
- Research and thought leadership (such as introducing the Public Trust Index)
- Good practice guides (download SmartWater and the Dark Web)
- Enewsletters and eZines with salient articles and features
We will shortly be introducing digital badges that members will be able to use to promote their professional membership, including social media profiles.
In what circumstances will Jelf pay for my CII membership?
You are now responsible for paying for your CII membership fees, however, if you are actively studying or already qualified then you can claim it back via the Jelf expenses system (if you meet the study criteria laid out in Jelf’s professional development policy).
What does actively studying mean?
You will be deemed to be actively studying if you are working towards either the Certificate (Cert CII), Diploma (Dip CII) or Advanced Diploma (ACII) qualification.
What does already qualified mean?
You can also claim back your membership fees if you have achieved a CII qualification (Dip CII and above), and can evidence that you have complied with all CPD and mandatory training requirements.
Will Jelf continue to pay for my CII qualifications?
Yes, Jelf will continue to pay for qualifications in line with their professional development policy criteria, if active CII membership is in place.
Do I still order my CII study materials through Jelf?
Yes, you can still order via qualifications@jelf.com. The only additional information we will need going forward is evidence that you have active CII membership.
How can I ensure I continue to receive communications from the CII?
Login to the CII website and go to the ‘Manage my preferences’ tab to check that your contact details are logged correctly and up to date. Here you will also be able to update your communication preferences to ensure you only receive content that is of interest to you.
