Online Training Workshop
One full-day
30 October 2026, 09:30 - 16:30 (UK)
Performance management and reward systems sit at the heart of regulatory risk in insurance. Poorly designed incentives, weak conduct metrics, or inadequate oversight have repeatedly contributed to customer harm, governance failures, and enforcement action under SM&CR, the FCA/PRA Remuneration Codes, and the UK Corporate Governance Code.

Workshop Objectives
This workshop explores HR’s critical role in ensuring that performance, pay, and progression frameworks reinforce good conduct rather than undermine it. Using real insurance sector cases, participants examine how appraisal design, competency assessment, reward structures, and documentation practices support regulatory compliance and senior manager accountability. The programme provides practical guidance on embedding conduct, Consumer Duty, and SM&CR expectations into people systems while maintaining commercial performance.
By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:
- Understand Regulatory Expectations on Pay & Performance – Understand how FCA/PRA rules, SM&CR, and governance codes shape performance and reward practices in insurance.
- Identify Incentive-Driven Conduct Risk – Recognise how misaligned targets, bonuses, or progression criteria can drive poor conduct and customer harm.
- Integrate Conduct into Performance Management – Embed conduct, competence, and Consumer Duty metrics into appraisal and objective-setting frameworks.
- Strengthen Governance & Oversight – Understand HR’s role in documentation, challenge, and assurance to support senior manager accountability.
- Manage Under-Performance & Conduct Issues – Apply fair, evidence-based approaches to managing performance and behaviour in regulated roles.
- Demonstrate Reasonable Steps – Support organisations and Senior Managers in evidencing compliant people decisions during audits, reviews, and investigations.
