Who is this course for?
This course is designed for all insurance professionals looking to build knowledge and understanding of cyber risk and insurance to inform their day-to-day roles, influence the wider business activities and to serve customers facing challenging cyber threats.
Learning outcomes
Completing this module will give you a better awareness of cyber risk insurance, how it features in policy coverage and how it relates to underwriting, claims handling and broking. By the end of this module, you will be able to:
- Describe the nature and types of cyber threat.
- Explain how legal and regulatory developments impact cyber exposure.
- Identify how different insurance policies can impact cyber coverage.
- Summarise the principal considerations of underwriters and brokers in relation to cyber insurance policies.
- Describe the claims handling process for cyber insurance.

- What cyber risks are and how organisations are exposed to them, with examples of typical claims.
- Why commercial customers need cyber insurance.
- Characteristics of non-affirmative/silent cyber coverage.
- Policy coverage provided under affirmative cyber policies.
- The process of handling cyber claims and typical claims conditions.
- Data loss, data breaches and data protection and how they relate to the role of the broker.
- Cyber security - considerations and ratings factors for underwriters.
- Recent developments in the cyber insurance market.

Course delivery
Instructions on accessing your course on RevisionMate will be sent to your registered email address. This is typically within two working days of your order being placed, but may be longer, particularly if payment is made by bank transfer or the unit is available as a pre-order.
Assessment
- A final online assessment, at the end of the course, of 30 multiple-choice questions (three attempts to pass to be eligible for the completion certificate).
Completion Certificate
On successful completion of the final assessment, you will be able to download a completion certificate.
CPD accreditation
Delegates participating in the accredited CII Cyber Risk and Insurance course can claim up to 7 CPD hours towards the CII / Personal Finance Society member CPD scheme.
*Assess is the CII's corporate e-learning platform, which many employers already use to provide compliance, technical and wider training throughout their organisations.
