The CII, in association with ComRes, has polled the public on levels of financial capability in the UK, attitudes towards where responsibility lies for financial decisions and whether financial education was necessary in schools. The results can be found in the our short report 'Financial Capability: State of the Nation'. This is a follow up to previous research in 2004 and 2008.

Using our own research and contributions from key stakeholders, the report provides insight into the likely implications of Dilnot on both the public’s experience of the care system and the role of the private sector in providing advice and funding solutions.

The Commission on Funding of Care and Support (the Dilnot Commission) is due to set out its final recommendations in early July, to overhaul the way long-term care is funded in the UK. In advance, this short paper assesses the possible implications for consumers and financial services of a likely new partnership model.

| Financial Capability: The Money Advice Service and the Retail Distribution Review

On the eve of the launch of the Government's "Financial Health Check" online tool, the CII has published a paper setting out why the Money Advice Service should educate the public on the Retail Distribution Review. The report includes research that suggests that 11 million non-users of professional financial advisers would consider that market as a result of the RDR reforms.

The CII has published the findings of its fourth annual membership skills survey. This year’s survey covered the impact of the economic conditions on training and development, the Coalition Government and skills, and includes the views of MPs (for the first time) as well as topics from previous surveys such as the quality of new entrants to the sector and the importance of professional qualifications.
