Research & Surveys

Undertaking research and canvassing the views of our membership are two key drivers behind good policy development. We are committed to developing our policy agenda by utilising these methods.

CII CPD Review

The CII Group has published the summary findings of our first ever Continuing Professional Development (CPD) survey. The survey, undertaken in autumn 2008, attracted responses from over 3,500 General Insurance Faculty members. The key findings will provide an important fact base to inform the CII’s review of CPD requirements going forward, with next steps to include a discussion paper outlining the key issues facing CPD today.

Our aims are to increase the relevance of CPD, help members, employers and the public to see the benefits of undertaking professional development, and increase awareness of the many existing CPD opportunities.

CII Group Climate Change Research

Coping with Climate Change: Risks and Opportunities for Insurers

On 23 February 2009, the CII Group published a detailed report on climate change and how the insurance industry can adapt and mitigate the associated risks. This is our third such report on this subject (the previous ones were published in 1994 and 2001), and is edited by Dr Andrew Dlugolecki who formerly participated on the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change which received a Nobel Peace Prize. It comprises 18 chapters exploring the science of climate change, the types of risks that could emerge across different types of insurance clients, and how these risks implicate virtually all aspects of insurance and financial services.

CII Group Financial Capability

Money’s too tight to mention: will the IPOD generation ever trust financial services?

The CII Group has published in association with the think tank Reform a major research project examining the financial issues
and habits of adults aged 18-34. With limited savings, high debts and low levels of financial capability, this group is known as the
IPOD generation (Insecure, Pressurised, Over-taxed and Debt-ridden), and could be at the highest risk in any upcoming
economic downturn.
