Key features

The modular structure of the qualifications framework offers great flexibility and provides candidates with the opportunity to develop their technical knowledge and understanding in line with their career progression, rather than be obliged to follow a rigid preset learning programme.

Candidates can select units from across all CII qualifications to develop the knowledge needed for their personal circumstances. The framework also enables candidates to study at their own pace, for example, by taking fewer units at a higher level, or more units at a lower level. Other features include:

Subject choice flexibility

The framework provides individuals and organisations with the flexibility to select the learning route that best fits with their job roles and career aspirations.

Support for lifelong learning

Prior study is recognised as candidates progress through the qualifications, taking accumulated credits with them.

Credits vary according to unit complexity

This allows quicker completion of a qualification if candidates select units from a higher level qualification, or if they choose the more complex and demanding units.

The framework blends a range of assessment methods

These include: multiple choice, multiple true/false, case study-based or essay questions. The method of testing for each unit is selected on the basis of what is most appropriate to the type and level of learning being undertaken. Multiple choice and multiple true/false exams are now tested online providing greater flexibility for candidates.

Candidates can study without actually committing to completing a full qualification

A ‘Record of Achievement’ is awarded for each unit completed, providing portable and permanent evidence of learning undertaken. And the credits are permanently retained and can be built upon, if and when study is recommenced at some point in the future.

Formal recognition upon completion

A Certificate, Diploma or Advanced Diploma, as appropriate, is awarded upon completion of a qualification, providing evidence of achievement.

Qualification holders can apply to use industry-recognised designation

Certificate – ‘Cert CII’; Diploma - ‘Dip CII’ and Advanced Diploma - ‘ACII’ are available to CII members. All designation holders participate in the CII’s Continuing Professional Development (CPD) scheme, to help maintain and enhance competence, and assist with ongoing career development.
