Member conduct
All CII members commit to upholding professional standards when they join the CII. The CII's Code of Conduct contains a set of principles which all CII members are expected to follow. Members found in breach of its Code of Conduct may be investigated by the CII's Disciplinary Committee and sanctions can be imposed. The CII's Code of Conduct is subject to ongoing review and development by the Professional Standards Board.
Chartered Members take their commitment to professional standards further by ensuring that they are qualified to a higher level (only Associates and Fellows of the CII can hold a Chartered title) and maintain that competence by completing ongoing Continuing Professional Development. They are also subject to specific items in the code of conduct which impose additional duties.
The CII currently has three chartered titles for which members can apply.
'Chartered Insurer' applies to qualified members working in an underwriting capacity for insurance companies and Lloyd's underwriting agents.
'Chartered Insurance Practitioner' applies to qualified members who work as insurance intermediaries or loss adjusters, in trade and professional bodies and in other insurance-related occupations.
'Chartered Insurance Broker' applies to qualified members who are carrying on business as an insurance broker.
Note: Chartered titles are granted to individual members and are not to be used as applying to firms, partnerships or corporate bodies.
If you are an Associate or Fellow of the CII and would like more information on Chartered Status or would like to apply for a chartered title read on.
