Sandy was appointed as the Chief Executive Officer (Director General) of the Chartered Insurance Institute on 11 September 2000. He graduated in medicine and surgery from Aberdeen University and spent his first ten years in the Royal Army Medical Corps achieving the rank of major. He then joined the Department of Health where his responsibilities included regulating the pharmaceutical industry in the United Kingdom. In 1989 he joined PPP healthcare and in 1995 became Deputy Managing Director. During this period he was also Chairman of the ABI's Medical Insurance Committee. In 1997 he joined Ingram Micro, a US based technology distribution company, as its Managing Director. As well as his role at the CII, Sandy is currently Chairman of the European Financial Planning Association (EFPA) and Chairman of the Institute for Global Insurance Education (IGIE).

Andrew King joined Marsh in November 2004, and is head of the Forensic Accounting and Claims Service group (FACS) based in London within Marsh Risk Consulting. Andrew is responsible for FACS services throughout the EMEA region. The FACS service offering involves major loss management, strategy, claims preparation and negation on behalf of clients against insurers and their representatives. After qualifying as a chartered accountant with Coopers and Lybrand Andrew spent the next 20 years working in loss adjusting with the Thomas Howell Group, latterly taken over by Crawfords. More recently, he rejoined the now named Pricewaterhouse Coopers acting as a claims consultant within their forensic services group. Andrew has handled some of the largest claims within the London market including the fire at the London Underwriting Centre and he has worked on major claims all around the world. Andrew has been active within the professional insurance institutes and has been head of examinations, Treasurer and also President of the Chartered Institute of Loss Adjusters, from April 2004 to April 2005. He remains a member of the CILA’s Executive Committee and also sits on the Professional Standards Board of the Chartered Insurance Institute.

Andrew holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Liverpool, is an Associate of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales and is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Loss Adjusters. He is also an accredited European Loss Adjusting Expert.

Jyoti is Head of Department (Marketing and Enterprise) at Middlesex University Business School, London.

Jyoti is a Doctor of Philosophy in Risk Management, MBA, a Fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute, Associate of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators and Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. She has industry experience as an International Underwriter based in London and Sweden and working closely with Financial Services organisations internationally. She has held international visiting professorships in Germany, Poland and Iceland. Her key research activities are in the areas of Risk Management, Financial Services and Insurance business, Financial Institutions and Regulations, Business Sustainability, Corporate Strategies and Firm performance and Professional Education.

Nicky Mullany studied History and Law at Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge before going on to qualify as a solicitor. She sits on a number of building society panels. Nicky is particularly interested in corporate governance for mutual organisations and improving the accountability of boards though membership involvement. She has experience of working in the voluntary sector with different groups of vulnerable consumers including the elderly, children and those with mental health issues. In addition to her roles in the financial services industry, Nicky is a non-executive director of an NHS Foundation Trust; member of the UK Stem Cell Bank Steering Committee; member of the HTA Disease Prevention Panel; member of a Lord Chancellor’s advisory sub-committee on Justices of the Peace; and member of a BBC audience council.

He is a Board member of the new statutory consumer advocacy body Consumer Focus, the premium rate regulator Phonepay Plus, the Payments Council, the Internet Watch Foundation and the Independent Mobile Classification Body; he also sits on the Advertising Advisory Committee which advises the Broadcast Committee of Advertising Practice and Advertising Standards Association on TV and Radio advertising rules Previously, from 2001 until 2003 he was Director of the Ofcom Transition project (on secondment from ITC) and from June 1999 until October 2001 as Director of Advertising and Sponsorship at ITC.

Retired recently as the Marsh Regional Director for N. Ireland and IoM, where he still acts in a consultancy capacity. He specialised in Professional Indemnity and participates in risk management seminars for professional bodies and individual firms.

Tom also runs his own consultancy firm in the field of expert witness training and auditing services to brokers and underwriters bringing him to the City on a
regular basis. Tom has been an examiner for the CII and President of the Belfast Insurance Institute on two occasions in1992-3 and in their Centenary Year 2007-8. He holds the CII’s Exceptional Service Medal and has been Chairman of BIBA in N. Ireland.

Tom has extensive charitable involvements and is currently a trustee of Arthritis Research. He was awarded an OBE for Services to Education in 1997 and was advanced to CBE for services to tourism in 2007. Tom was recently appointed Chief Charity Commissioner for N. Ireland.

Jonathan is an insurance broker who has held previous posts with Minet, Aon and Marsh. He started his career as a Lloyd’s broker covering management liability and financial institution risks, and subsequently went on to become a director at both Aon and Marsh looking after large multi-national corporate risks. He is now a director on the insurance desk at Barclays Commercial Bank providing senior debt finance and banking services to global wholesale clients, where his responsibilities include a portfolio of the top global brokers and insurers. He is currently working on completing

Stephen was awarded an Exceptional Service Medal by the CII Awards Panel in 2005 in recognition of his services to both the Insurance Institute of York and the CII. He lectures on the financial services and insurance market to German, Norwegian and Swedish students at York Associates language school. He gives presentations to advisers across northern England on care fees planning for the elderly client.

Married to Veronica they jointly run a successful business in York as Charles Wilkinson Financial Planning Ltd.

Outside of work Stephen enjoys fishing and hiking, particularly challenge walks.
