Online Exam Centres

When booking you need to consider where and when you want to sit the exam.
We currently offer more than 80 centres at over 40 locations nationwide. These are selected for their accessibility via road/rail links.
You choose the date and time of your exam from those listed for each centre. Availability will vary from centre to centre, in accordance with patterns of demand.
Address details and information concerning parking and disabled access for each centre are available in the 'Online exam centres' section below.

We recommend booking six weeks in advance to give you the best chance of getting your preferred date, timing and centre.

The online exam service is not yet available outside the UK. If you plan on sitting a Certificate in Insurance, FIT or Diploma in Regulated Financial Planning exam outside the UK, please refer to the relevant 'Information for candidates' brochure for more information. For all other Certificate exams, including the Certificate in Financial Planning, we would recommend, in the first instance, you contact CII Customer Service on +44 (0)20 8989 8464.

Once your exam entry has been accepted, an 'Admission permit' will be dispatched to you by post within two working days, confirming:

Unit title(s) and code(s)

Date and time of exam(s)

Exam centre address

Confirmation of any other exams booked

Please note that sittings are subject to availability. We will aim to allocate an exam at the date and time requested in the venue specified; however if there is no space our policy is to assign a sitting at the next available date at the same centre (or nearby centre during times where we experience high demand). Please check your exam booking acknowledgement as soon it is received and advise us if the date allocated is unsuitable.

Before the day of the exam, we recommend you use our 'exam simulation' to familierise yourself with the exam process - see the 'Online Exams Simulation' section below.

Please note: Online exams do not require any existing IT skills, with the actual process being very straightforward.

On the day of your booked exam you should attend your chosen centre, following the instructions at www.cii.co.uk/exampolicies in particular bringing the required identification with you.

Upon completion you will receive an immediate notification of your result. A formal result notification will be dispatched to you within seven working days.

Where you pass, you will be sent your 'Record of Achievement' within ten working days, and, where appropriate, your qualification 'Completion Certificate'. Where you are unsuccessful, you will be able to enter for a re-sit upon receipt of your result notification . Alternatively, you can continue your studies by entering for the next exam unit.

* Exams are set though the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII). The CII carries its equal opportunities policy through to cover all the exams it administers. Provisions are made for candidates who are disabled, this may include dyslexic, blind, partially sighted or those with dexterity impediments.

If you are disabled or have a condition which you believe should be taken into consideration in assessing your exam performance, you should apply in writing, enclosing medical evidence such as a doctor's letter. Applications without medical evidence will not be considered.

Your application should preferably accompany your exam entry. The CII will hold your medical evidence on file, but you must send in a written request for provision to be made/consideration given before each subsequent exam you enter.
