Investing in tomorrow's skills today: The CII prospectus for skills

Investing in tomorrow's skills today' is the CII's prosectus for skills and is our constructive contribution to the skills debate.

We have a long tradition and proven track record in providing training and development solutions and meeting the needs of our members and the industries we serve. This experience has shaped our view of the current UK skills system and enabled us to develop a seven point plan for improving skills. This plan is set out within our prospectus.

We see the simplification of the present skills landscape, the creation of a stable policy framework and the greater recognition of underutilised resources, such as professional bodies, as key to reinvigorating our skills system.

Insuring a better future: How to attract the best students into insurance

This report presents the key findings of the CII’s recent research on students’ attitudes towards insurance as a career, and makes recommendations for how the sector can attract the next generation of talent. Over 1600 students took part in the initial surveys, which were supplemented by focus groups. Key findings confirm the image problem many have suspected, but suggest the key factor is a lack of knowledge of the sector and the breadth of opportunity that exists. One of the report’s recommendations is more structured work experience, placements and internships which are highly valued by students but currently under-utilised by major insurance employers.
