Terrorism – insurance for it or the exclusion of it – has fallen under the spotlight in recent years.
Terrorism is one of the more recent phenomena with which the insurance industry has had to grapple with. The Insurance Institute of London’s research study group 258 have published a study that examines insurance for terrorism and associated perils. Major terrorist attacks have unfortunately confirmed that the terrorism threat is serious, sustained and global.
The study covers the historic development of war, terror and associated wordings, including riot and civil war and gives a class-by-class analysis of underwriting terrorism risks.
The article below is an extract from the publication, it explains in detail the role and impact of state terror pools. It looks at issues which need to be considered in order to fully understand the working of terrorism insurance schemes that have state sponsorship.
It provides an invaluable insight and guidance for all insurance practitioners, as well as a very informative read for anyone interested in headline news events.
