Insurance aspects of E-Commerce

E-Commerce continues to evolve as the use of IT is an integral part of everyday business. With E-Commerce being an inherently technical area the management of security is about people, visibility and risk. It impacts upon the way in which the Insurance industry conducts business. As well as the new risks, there are old risks in new guises, which this IT revolution created for the insurance industry to insure.

This article is an extract from the publication, by The Insurance Institute of London’s research study group 256, seeks to create awareness of some of the key issues affecting the insurance of E-Commerce. It highlights various threats to the security of IT systems and stresses the importance of the management in this area. It discusses areas of new risk for which entirely new insurance products are required.
