Recognition of prior learning

Under a scheme known as 'recognition of prior learning' you may be eligible to claim credits for relevant exams and qualifications obtained through awarding bodies other than the CII, such as professional bodies or universities. Subject to the published completion requirements these can be used towards completing CII qualifications.

By applying for recognition of prior learning for exams and qualifications you can significantly reduce the time taken to complete your CII qualification, as well as reducing duplication of previous study.

To apply for recognition of prior learning, complete and return the application form at the bottom of this page to CII Customer Service. If your application is successful, a fee of £3 PFS/CII members and £4 non-members per credit is typically payable. (Please do not send any money at the point of application.)

Any credits you are awarded for non-CII exams will automatically be added to your CII Learning Account, along with credits you have been awarded for CII exams.

Relevant non-CII exams and qualifications

The list of exams and qualifications that are accepted is so large and subject to such regular change that it is not possible to publish it. This is why we encourage you to submit a free, no obligation application.

There are, however, standardised credits available for UK-awarded qualifications in Accounting & Finance, Business, Economics, Law and Management. Please see the downloads at the bottom of this page for further information. Please note these are only guides and not definitive listings.
