Diversity
Diversity values the differences which exist between people. These differences are embraced to promote an environment where everyone’s characteristics are values, respected and fully utilised.
The CII provides membership and services to a diverse profession which in turn serves a diverse range of consumers. It seeks to:
- promote ethical business and professional practices among persons engaged or employed in insurance or financial services
- employ staff from a diverse range of backgrounds.
The CII values and respects diversity and strives in all of its activities to take account of and reflect the interests of all the people it serves in line with section 5 of the CII Code of Ethics .
CII Professional Standards Board (PSB) Diversity Action Group
The CII has a Diversity Action Group which aims to encourage diversity within the insurance and financial services sector.
The Action Group currently consists of 10 members although by its Terms of Reference it is able to have up to 12 members appointed by the Action Group on the approval of the Nominations Committee following recommendation of the Professional Standards Board. The membership consists of a Chairman, a Vice Chairman, CII members and at least three lay members. Members from diverse backgrounds are encouraged to apply to sit on the Action group.
The PSB Diversity Action Group seeks:
- to raise awareness of diversity issues amongst CII Members, Committees, Management and Staff.
- to consider how the CII can become a more inclusive professional organisation
- to develop appropriate diversity policy and actions for implementation by the CII
- to monitor and review the CII diversity actions to ensure implementation and to maintain relevance and effectiveness.
- to communicate the diversity policy to CII Members, Committees, Management and Staff to encourage the highest possible level of compliance.
- to advise and be consulted on the CII diversity policy
The PSB Diversity Action Group would be delighted to hear from anyone who is interested in the work of the group or has any views or ideas to promote diversity at a local level, nationally or internationally.

Disability Symbol
The CII has been granted the use of the Disability Symbol in support of our commitment to encourage disabled people to apply for vacancies at the CII. We have agreed to meet five commitments regarding the recruitment, employment, retention and career development of disabled people.
When recruiting for Committee / Board members we ask candidates applying for vacancies to indicate access requirements and any additional needs so that reasonable adjustments may be considered during the interview and selection process.
