Who can borrow?
Members. Any member of the Chartered Insurance Institute or The
Personal Finance Society can borrow from the library. Items are
issued on loan on the understanding they are for the use of the
registered borrower and will not be lent to others. We can post
items anywhere in Europe. For postage of items outside Europe,
please see information on our International Lending Service.
What can be borrowed?
Many books and pamphlets can be borrowed, as well as some other
material. Six books can be taken out per borrower. If something can
be borrowed there will be a note in the library catalogue record
saying it can, e.g. "May be borrowed by members". If there is no
note the item cannot be borrowed.
For how long?
The loan period is four weeks. Provided the item has not been
reserved by another reader, a loan may be renewed by telephone,
email or at the library itself as many times as you like.
Please quote your CII pin number when renewing your items. Items
on loan must be returned, or the loan renewed, on or before the due
date. Failure to renew or return items before they become overdue
could result in suspension or withdrawal of library facilities and
may also incur overdue charges (see below).
Charges
April 2013: Please note, in response to changes in
postal service charges, we have unfortunately been obliged to alter
our charging scheme for postal loans. Please see below for further

When collected in person: there is no charge for collection of
items on hold/reserve in the library.
When posted: we post out books at cost, using the most

Overdue items. Standard loans: 20p per item for each working day
overdue (waived if the item is returned within the first seven days
(including weekends and holidays) overdue).
Losses
You are responsible for items on loan to you until they are
returned to the library. In the event of loss you will be invoiced
for the current price of the item (or the current price of a
comparable item if out of print) plus handling charges of £10 per
item plus £3 per invoice. However, you will not be held liable for
any loss in the return post provided you have obtained a "proof of
postage" certificate (free from post offices) and the parcel is
properly wrapped.
Reservations
If the item you want is not on the shelves but is in stock it
can usually be reserved for you. We have multiple copies of many
books, so the waiting period will often be quite short. If the item
you want is not in the library stock, in many cases we can buy a
copy.
