Local Institute Manual
This manual is designed to help all local institute officers during their tenure of specific roles within their local institutes.
It is not designed as a set of rules but rather as a working document that is intended to both guide officers and to be an aide memoire. It is recognised that each local institute operates slightly differently from all the others and thus the guidelines will need to be adapted to suit local requirements which will themselves change over time. However, there are some areas of commonality across all institutes and the rules relating to protocol will be the same at all institutes.
As at 30 June 2007 the manual incorporates the various topics originally identified as being important to local institutes - plus some new ones and is now comprised of some 162 Sections and sub-sections.
The manual is divided into various sections (a full listing can be found in the Contents section) as follows:
A The Chartered Insurance Institute
Sections 1 to 9 relate to The CII itself plus The Insurance Charities
B Regional Section 10 deals with Regional Councils
C Local Institutes Sections 11 to 18 deal with general local institute matters
D Roles of local institute officers
Sections 19 to 33 detail matters relating to specific roles within local institutes including some draft job descriptions
E Activities
Sections 34 to 39 deal with CII events
Sections 40 to 49 deal with local institute events including annual dinners and the examinations
F Communications
Sections 50 to 60 are concerned with methods of communication
G Legal / Finance
Sections 61 to 71 cover relevant legislation and financial matters including grants
H General
Sections 72 to 76 cover general matters such as awards and sponsorship.
