Member Search

The person I am searching for does not appear. Why?

Please ensure you have entered the member's name correctly - the more specific you are in the name search, the more likely you are to find the correct member. If their name is entered correctly and they still do not appear, they may have previously chosen not to be listed. Members who have previously opted out of the search will be opted back in from 1 January 2017. If you are still unable to find a member via the online search, you can verify their status by contacting Customer Service on +44 (0)20 8989 8464.

I’m struggling to differentiate between the listed members. Can you help?

Members are listed by name, membership level, Chartered status, country and area (the local institute to which UK members belong). This is the limit of information we are permitted to make publicly available. We aim to provide enough information so that you can verify an individual's credentials.

Are all CII/ PFS members on the database?

All members regardless of their membership level are included on the database, however as mentioned above under "The person I am searching for does not appear. Why?", if a member is not listed it may because they have previously opted out of the search. This will be corrected from 1 January 2017.

What are the categories of individual Chartered status?

Chartered Financial Planner:  These are eligible members whose business is to provide financial planning advice or related activities to individuals or corporate entities.

Chartered Insurer: These are qualified members working for insurance companies and Lloyd's underwriting agents.

Chartered Insurance Practitioner: These are qualified members who work as insurance intermediaries or loss adjusters, in trade and professional bodies and in other insurance-related occupations. 

Chartered Insurance Broker: These are qualified members carrying out business as an insurance broker. An insurance broker is an independent intermediary who acts for clients and, in respect of any product type, offers or sells the products of more than one insurer.

Chartered Insurance Risk Manager: These are qualified members working within the insurance sector, or in the wider commercial environment, who are responsible for the identification, assessment and control of risk.

What does 'Area' mean?

The term 'area' refers to the local insurance institute to which the member belongs. All CII members in the UK are assigned a local institute upon becoming a member. A list of local institutes can be found here.

I’m a member, but cannot find myself in the search. Why?

The first thing to do is to check the following:

- your name is entered correctly; 
- the country you have selected is the same as the country used in your default address; and
- your membership is up to date and has not lapsed.

Next, you should log into My CII and ensure that you have an address entered under 'Your Home Details' (this can be a copy of your work address, if preferred). Finally, select Edit my details then under Address selection, ensure that either a work address or home address is selected for general correspondence and deliveries. If you are still experiencing problems, please call Customer Service on +44 (0)20 8989 8464.

My listed details are incorrect. What do I do?

You can change your country on the CII website by logging in to My CII and selecting 'edit my details'. If you wish to change your name or local institute please contact Customer Service at customer.serv@cii.co.uk or +44 (0)20 8989 8464. We will automatically update your membership level if this changes.

How do I remove myself from the search?

We believe all members should be listed in the database for reasons of transparency and openness. Indeed, details pertaining to membership and qualifications are a matter of public record, so we have always released the information when requested. On this basis you are unable to remove your details from the member search.

Does this database show all individuals who hold CII qualifications?

This is a database of members only, many of whom hold CII qualifications. Individuals can hold CII qualifications without being a member and these non-members are not included in the search.
