Prior Learning Case study

Allianz Insurance

Allianz Underwriting Academy's CII prior learning accreditation award made it the first inhouse training programme within the insurance industry to achieve this status at Advanced Diploma Level.

Action

To fast track staff towards gaining insurance qualifications and to assess and recognise the robustness of the firm's Underwriting Academy assessment procedures.

The process

Detailed audit of training material and assessment processes including question-bank security, question-setting and review process. Interviews with staff involved in the moderation, marking, question-setting and review process.

The review assessed whether the modules involved a similar amount of work at an equivalent standard and level of assessment to CII exams.

The outcome

  • Enhancement of company reputation, both internally and externally
  • Cost-savings in exam support for the accredited subjects
  • Staff retention and motivation benefits.

Within the Allianz internal training programme, two courses have been identified as being of the same standard as Advanced Diploma modules.

The result

Allianz Underwriting Academy's CII prior learning accreditation award made it the first inhouse training programme within the insurance industry to achieve this status at Advanced Diploma Level. The accreditation means that, for the first time, staff passing specific personal lines or commercial (motor, property and casualty) academy modules can earn (up to a maximum of 60) credits within the CII qualification structure. This encourages and enables employees to become qualified and adds value to the internal training programme.

Business benefits

  • Benchmarking of standards against CII quality standards
  • Cost effective training programme supporting a fast track route to becoming CII qualified
  • Underpins improved technical competence standards.

"We are very proud to be the first insurer to achieve this level of accreditation from the CII. Our clear goal is to have the most technically-skilled underwriters within the industry and this affirms our commitment to achieving this objective. Our Underwriting Academy is successful because of the hard work and dedication of the people involved in the design and delivery of the training materials and this recognition of our determination to train our staff to the highest standards is very welcome.",  Andrew Torrance, Chief Executive, Allianz
