CII Broker Academy Insurance Broking Faculty, CII working in partnership with AXA and BIBA

About the Broker Academy

What is the Broker Academy?

The CII Broker Academy is essentially a ‘one stop shop’ training and development facility for insurance brokers. We’re talking about qualifications, learning and revision materials, access to face-to-face training, online learning and assessment facilities, membership of the CII and its dedicated Faculty of Broking – a whole host of services that enable brokers to accelerate their professional development. The unrivalled range of services enables the Broker Academy to cater for all learning styles and training preferences.

Who is behind the initiative?

The Broker Academy has been developed by the CII’s Faculty of Broking in partnership with AXA and BIBA. This is the first time that the industry has collaborated to create a market-wide learning and development solution for brokers. It is truly a case of "by the industry, for the industry".

What is the aim?

The purpose of the Broker Academy is to support the drive to raise standards and enhance levels of knowledge and understanding across the industry.

The Broker Academy provides access to the CII’s unrivalled range of broker-specific training solutions. Crucially, it helps users match these services to individual development needs through the ‘Excellence Framework’. The Framework identifies specific competences (skills, knowledge and abilities) for a broad range of broker job roles and matches against these the corresponding training solutions provided by the CII.

How will it develop?

The Broker Academy will be regularly enhanced by the introduction of additional services to support the development of technical knowledge, business knowledge and interpersonal skills. It will increasingly see the introduction of innovative, packaged learning solutions that deliver real business benefit unmatched by any other organisation in the market.

Crucially, the direction and content will be actively shaped by the broking industry. We will be running ‘Focus Groups’ to allow users to feed in their thoughts on the services/information they require. These contributions will shape the future development programme for the Broker Academy.

How will it be used?

For many brokers, we believe the Broker Academy will serve as a ‘virtual training partner’, providing both individuals and managers responsible for training within a firm with practical assistance and support. And as training and development activity becomes more focused, efficient and successful, brokers will have more opportunity to concentrate on the core activity of broking.

What are the advantages of online accessibility?

The online nature of the Broker Academy enables the varied services to be brought together in a coherent and accessible manner, and importantly delivers training and development nationwide, countering the traditional approach of a London/major city centre approach to the provision of training to the broker market.
